The Cruising Club Fractional Boat Ownership business was first launched in Sydney, Australia in 1998, by founder Mark Cairney. With headquarters located at Birkenhead Point Marina in Sydney Harbour, the business grew from a single 30ft boat in Sydney, to a range of models and sizes from 28ft to 50ft, primarily from Australian manufacturer Sunrunner Marine, at a number of locations in New South Wales and Queensland.

In 2006 the Australian business was transferred to a separate management company, and a new international franchise business was formed to expand the concept on a global basis.
Today The Cruising Club Australia is the largest Fractional Boat Ownership company in Australia with a range of locations from Sydney Harbour to the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef, including vessels from 28ft to 56ft from manufacturers such as Riviera, Mustang, Bavaria, Cruisers and Sunrunner.
